We listed our house.

So we listed out house in DSM, it was on the market for 4 days total 2 days on Zillow and sold over asking. I shot the house the day before listing. We put so much work into that home & it was so hard to watch it go so fast. God I will miss this house so much so many memories in this house, the back yard with all the parties. If this house could talk.... all the things it has seen. One couple, a marriage, three roommates, two puppies and one kitty cat.

Deciding to move to Boise & leaving Des Moines.

It's true we've decided to make a very big move in out lives. We will be selling our house and packing up for Idaho in a few weeks. This will be one of the most exciting moments in our lives and the saddest. We have so many loving friends and family here in Iowa who we will miss very much, not being able to see those smiling faces will be hard I'm sure of it. The reason, Karen has excepted a position at BSU as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Games, Interactive Media and Mobile starting this fall. Looking forward all the awesome stuff we can do in & around the Boise area as well as the surrounding states.

Leaving Jake Boyd Photo the company I've been shooting for here in Des Moines was a very hard choice to make as well, I will forever be grateful for the camaraderie and knowledge that team has given me. But it gives me the chance to make another big move to continue living my out my dreams & start my own operation and take the plunge into the real estate photo game in Boise. I've learned so much in such a short time which seems like ages ago.

Sophie's parents Justin & Amelia booked a Baby's First Year session with us. I absolutely love when we get to plan and take photos for an entire year for a client. Our Baby's First Year sessions include maternity, newborn, 3 months, 6 months, 9 months and 1 year. Usually the sessions last from 2-3 hours depending on the location.

Since we didn't get to blog about Sophie in the beginning, I'd like to share a few of my favorites of her over the past 4 photo sessions. It has been an absolute joy to be able to share with her family how much she has grown over the past 9 months.

Here are a few of my favorites:

Maternity

We lucked out with Amelia's maternity photos. Sophie came a little early and if I remember right, we got her maternity photos taken just in time before Sophie was welcomed into the world.

Newborn

Welcome little Sophie!!!

For newborn photos we took photos in Justin & Amelia's home so as to create a very comfortable atmosphere for Sophie.

3 Months

For the 3 month photos we went to a variety of locations around downtown Des Moines.

6 Month

Amelia & Justin had the great idea to visit the Blank Park Zoo for Sophie's 6 month photo session so we spent the morning walking around the zoo and documenting the family fun day. Afterwards we went back to our in-home studio for some more photos.

What a cutie! Thank you Justin and Amelia for allowing us to be part of Sophie's 1st year! I can't wait to post the photos from her 9 month session and her upcoming 1 year session. :)

Jen & Monty Country Winery Wedding

Macy Senior Photos

Macy is a senior at Colfax-Mingo High School. For senior photos we usually scout a variety of locations prior to the photo session that we think would work well the style of the photos best suited for the client. For Macy we took photos around her home town of Colfax and then ventured out to a family farm out in the middle of the country.

We came upon a pilot spraying the corn fields for the upcoming harvest. The pilot was nice enough to fly low and keep circling close to where we were taking photos. Thanks to the pilot and some great timing, Macy is able to have a plane in her photos.

Jeremy & Cassy Fiesta Wedding

Jeremy & Cassy decided to make their wedding completely their own. The bride decided to wear capris and a pretty tank top instead of the traditional dress. In addition her bridesmaids complimented her look by wearing similar outfits but in a variety of colors. The ceremony was a small intimate ceremony with just their immediate family followed by a fun outdoor party reception. All in all, it was beautiful colorful wedding that was perfect for this couple. As photographers, we love seeing people make choices that fit their style.

Kendra and Bob were expecting a baby boy during the winter of 2011. These are the maternity photos we took of their family just before the weather turned cold.
The entire family are huge Green Bay Packer fans. Even their dog Earl got in on the family photos!

Eric & Robin Engagement

Eric & Robin both went to college at the University of Iowa. However it wasn't until after college that they met and started a relationship. To this day the two are die hard Hawkeye fans. Because of this, we scheduled two photo sessions for their engagement photos. One was taken during the late summer in Des Moines and the other was taken during football season back at their alma mater at U of I. Their little dog Helga joined in on some of the photo fun.

Zella's parents Emily & Beau bought a series of photo sessions to document their first-born daughter Zella's first year of life.

Here are Emily's maternity photos, Zella's new born, 6 month and 1st year photos. I can't believe how much Zella looks just like her mother. They are a beautiful family.

This one below is definitely one of my favorites. We took a before photo during Emily's maternity session and then an after photo once Zella was born. Just one of the perks of having multiple sessions scheduled with the same client.

For most trash the dress sessions, we don't really trash the wedding dress. Although there are few brides willing to do this (which is always fun!), most brides really don't want to ruin their dress.

Really, trash the dress sessions are more of an opportunity to take fun creative photos that the bride and groom wouldn't have had time to take on their wedding day.

For Jenni & Micah's trash the dress session we chose to go out in Jasper County to a variety of locations.

This summer is packed full of awesome trips. First we head to Decorah, IA for the big Doty family gathering and my big brothers 30th birthday. Then that next week we leave for Bonnaroo in Manchester,TN home of the Roo festival. Karen has never been to a large music and arts festival like this one, and this will be my 4th time attending the massive ROO. We are also planning on riding three days this year on the Registers Annual Group Bike Ride Across Iowa "RAGBRAI" baby ! We will also be riding the 3rd annual The Urban Assault Ride. I guess you can say we like to bike.
